Eight or better

I consider Eight-or better to be the same for 7 Card Stud as Omaha Hi-Lo is for Texas Holdem.

The same game, played with a Hi-Lo split, that is, at the end of the game the pot is shared between the highest ranking poker hand and the lowest ranking one.

The play is the same as that of 7 Card Stud, so if you feel there are holes in your knowledge regarding that, click here.

At the end of the standard 7 Card Stud betting rounds, players will be required to make a high and a low 5-card poker hand, out of the 7 cards in their possession (only cards that are 8 or below qualify for low, just like in Omaha Hi-Lo) It is indeed possible for the same player to take both the low and the high half of the pot this way, however it’s needless to say only players with a super computer instead of a brain will be able to properly keep track of what’s happening on both ends.

Sometimes it so happens that there are no qualifying low hands at all. In this case high hand takes the entire pot.
